Beating Heart
02:40
|
|||
Hold me close when you let me in
I’ve got a beating heart that burns within
There’s a war out here and it’s getting colder
And I’m standing in my white T-shirt
To the beauty in you well I was blind
Now to you I’d give all my time
And all my money and all my bread
For another night with you in bed
Now I’m looking all around and what do I see?
I see the whole wide world just waiting for me
Yeah this beating heart needs company
And there’s no one around who compares with thee
Now hold me close and don’t let go
I’ve got a beating heart that burns for you
I thought I found God but he eludes
And I know I’ll find him again in you

Elephant Wondering
03:05
|
|||
What if squirrels all ran toward us
And people all ran away
And the army ants all went to heaven
And the mantis forgot to pray
And subway ads all bought each other
And left us all alone
What if we all went to school
And the banks forgave the loan?
Do you believe in miracles?
Do you believe in some kind of sign?
Stranger things can happen
They happen all the time
The world could stop spinning
The sun could eat the moon
You could turn around and say
I think that I love you
What if flowers grew in hell
After hell had frozen over
And the devil just went to sleep
For the month of October
And what if when he woke up
Eyes all sad and glum
Said I think my war here’s over
It’s time that I move on
Do you believe in miracles?
Do you believe in some kind of sign?
Stranger things can happen
They happen all the time
The world could stop spinning
The sun could eat the moon
You could turn around and say
I think that I love you
Now take this long and winding ribbon
Ride it up to the sky
Weave it through the planets
Look the sun right in the eye
And say to his golden face
You should come out a little more
Don’t you know we all
Could use just a little more?
Do you believe in miracles?
Do you believe in some kind of sign?
Stranger things can happen
They happen all the time
The world could stop spinning
The sun could eat the moon
You could turn around and say
I think that I love you

Grandma Song
04:58
|

My grandma passed away
Five year ago today
And I’m wondering what she’d say
Of the way that I’ve lived
And of all the things that I've done
In my time since that day
Oh I’m wondering what she’d say
If she were here today
Well I went to a university
In Germany
Away from the family
To study psychology
And I learned so very much
About the way that people act
Oh I’m thinking that grandma
She’d be happy about that
Then I fell in love
With a woman from school
After a few years we grew apart
As some couples do
So then I left her
Or maybe she left me
Love can be a scary thing
Grandma, I know you'd agree
(Interlude)
Sometimes on the weekend
I’ll go and see some friends
Maybe drive to a cabin
A cabin in the woods
Where our love and our laughter
Meet the stillness of nature
And the sun that shone on you
Shines on me too
Remember when we drank tea
And discussed Socrates?
Well it sparked something in me
Cause now I’m getting my PhD
And they’ll publish one of my papers
By the end of the semester
And it’s about the life
Of that famous philosopher
But sometimes my mood gets low
And my work goes slow
It’s when the winds blow
They blow me off
Of the path that you set me on
And away from who I am
It’s times like these I wish
That you could set me straight again
(interlude)
Well my grandma passed away
It was five years ago today
And she’d be proud I’d say
Of the way that I’ve lived
And of most of the things that I’ve done
In my time since that day
Still I’m wondering what she’d say
If she were here today

Where They May
04:24
|
|||
I am a young man
And I may be a lot like you
I’d give my heart to everyone
But there’s too much else to do
It feels like I’m on a moving train
That’s passing all my stops
And every grassy plain
Is a thousand ticking clocks
Now I have a girl
And she’s moving with me
Through this racing world
She sometimes says she loves me
Most of the time I believe her
Yeah I really do
But if we keep on moving
She might move along too
One time when I came home
It was about half past nine
Put my bag down on the floor
And I loosened my tie
And a thought came to my mind
That it’s time to pick up my
Jigsaw puzzle life
And let the pieces fall where they may
Oh lord I’ve been waiting
On some kind of call
But every phone is ringing
Off the hook of every wall
How was it that St. Paul
On the road to Damascus
Knew the lightning bolt that stunned him
Was really from the heavens?
I keep running into trouble
cause I try to outrun my pain
I’m convinced that it’s clear skies
When it’s really pouring rain
I wanna know how St. Paul
On the road to Damascus
Knew the lightning bolt that stunned him
Was really from the heavens
One time when I came home
It was about half past nine
Put my bag down on the floor
And I loosened my tie
And a thought came to my mind
That it’s time to pick up my
Jigsaw puzzle life
And let the pieces fall where they may
I am a young man
And I may be a lot like you
I'd give my heart to everyone
But there's too much else I gotta do

I’m riding on the subway dressed in a nice shirt
I'm riding on the subway cause I’m heading to work
Gonna step in the office with my back pack on
Gonna step in the office and say good mornin’
Then I’m gonna find Heather, we’re gonna talk
About the weather
Hey Heather
Let’s talk about the weather
Gonna get to my desk got emails to read through
Gonna get to my desk and reply to a few
Gonna write a lot of words that no one needs
Gonna write a lot of words and get real busy
Then I’m gonna find Heather, we’re gonna talk
About the weather
Hey Heather
Let’s talk about the weather
Gonna eat my lunch with a plastic knife
Gonna eat my lunch in florescent light
Gonna say to my boss you know we need a decorator
Gonna say to my boss that it’s bleak in here
Then I’m gonna find Heather, we’re gonna talk
About the weather
Hey Heather
Let’s talk about the weather
Gonna look out the window at the street below
Gonna look out the window see the people go
Gonna think about quitting then think about rent
Gonna think about quitting well not quite yet
Then I’m gonna find Heather, we gotta talk
About the weather
Hey Heather (babbling)
Let’s talk about the weather
